About this driver

A 6.5" 4 Ω aluminum-cone midwoofer from Dayton Audio’s Signature Series. It’s a well-built, measurement-optimized driver priced for DIY 2-ways and 2.5-ways.

The SIG180-4 is the 6.5" model in Dayton Audio’s Signature Series. That line is five woofer models ranging from 4" to 10", with the stated goal of being cost-effective, high-performance “audiophile” quality woofers.

The cone is a one-piece concave, black anodized aluminum diaphragm on a shallow transition NBR surround. The cone and surround are indexed for smooth transition/frequency response. The motor was tuned with extensive Klippel LMP and LSI tests to optimize Bl symmetry and parameters. It also has a vented bobbin and raised spider for optimized airflow. An open aluminum cast frame helps it shed heat, and a stainless-steel badge finishes the look.

The parameters suit small-to-mid bass-reflex boxes: Fs 40.5 Hz, Qts 0.38, ±5 mm linear excursion. Power handling is rated at 80 W RMS, 160 W max, and the voice coil is 31.8 mm. Its smooth top end makes it a natural partner for a 1" dome in a 2-way crossed around 2–3 kHz. It also works as the woofer in a compact 2.5-way.

  • 6.5" midwoofer, 4 Ω

  • Fs 40.5 Hz, Qts 0.38, Xmax ±5 mm

  • 80 W RMS / 160 W max

  • Cutout 5.75", depth 3.23", 6 mounting holes
